Cops and Cogs For College
100K, 50K & 25K Bicycle Tour/ Fun Race
Event Staging Location:
I. C. Dehart Memorial Park
2631 Charity Highway
Woolwine, Virginia 24185
100 Kilometer Route Information:
This is a challenging ride that will leave Dehart Park, traverse many small mountains with significant climbs throughout the ride. Many of the climbs can exceed 10-15% grades for very short sections. Rarely do the climbs exceed one mile. After climbing Foley Mountain on Pole Bridge Road, the ride significantly changes character for 25 miles, becoming a faster, slightly flatter course. As the ride turns right onto Ironbrigde Road at mile 52 the terrain becomes more mountainous. This course is guaranteed to challenge every cyclist regarless of skill level or experience. With 6000-7000 feet of vertical climbing it is recommended to have a triple crank road bike, with two water bottles. There are three rest stops along the route with light food, and fluids. SAG vehicles, and Sheriff's Deputies will be along entire route for assistance when needed. Be fully prepared to fix mechanical problems, as there will be no bicycle mechanic available as of this notice. Extra tires and pumps will be carried by SAG vehicles for assistance if requested. The 100K route is very challenging but allows for alternative route at mile 21, that can allow for the 50K route if the day is not going as desired. Map my ride gives an estimated 3000 feet of climbing. Trust me that is not anywhere close to accurate. This ride has been measured using four computers with results ranging from 6000-8000 vertical feet. I will safely say this ride has approximately 7000 feet of climbs.
50 Kilometer Route Information:
The 50 kilometer route is a difficult but exciting ride in north eastern parts of Patrick County. The 50K route has many of the same difficult climbs as the 100K route. The 50K route makes a left turn onto Pleasant View Road (Mile 16) following the accent/decent of Foley Mountain. After making the left turn onto Pleasant View Road the 50K route continues north working back towards Route 57. After turning left onto Route 57 the course continues west before turning onto Ironbridge Road. The route becomes mountainous at this point. Steep hills, and fun downhills continue all the way back to Dehart Park. The 50K route will have two supported rest stops with light food, and fluids. It is recommended that a triple crank road bike, with two water bottles be used for this ride. The climbs along the 50K route can be quite steep but rarely exceed one mile in length.
